A Clue for Isabella and Isaac

Private Letter Room

The Isabella and Isaac Case Desk

Derek's latest note has been opened, logged, and tucked beside the earlier evidence. Nothing is solved yet, which is exactly why the room stays lit.

Dear Isabella,

Thank you for your excellent website report. I read it aloud at the Rainbow Meadow Emergency Meeting, but Derek thought "cropped" meant "covered in crops" and arrived wearing three lettuces and a worried carrot.

You were right about the Mystery Mailbox. Six buttons were all trying to open the same letter, which made the Button Committee panic and form a tiny queue. I have now made one proper Open the Current Letter button, and the other envelopes behave like envelopes instead of acting like secret trapdoors.

You were also right about Derek's character sheet. It was sitting on his face like a very official pancake. I moved reference sheets underneath the main picture, where they can be useful without bonking anyone on the nose.

Maestro Magnifico's profile and my profile have also been checked for side-cropping. Maestro did a dramatic bow, fell into a tuba, and shouted "I was framed!" which was not technically true, but it was very loud.

The sheep are now celebrating by sliding down the rainbow in biscuit tins. Builder Jack says this is structurally unwise. Spark says it is structurally hilarious.

Dear Isabella and Isaac,

I am writing very quietly from Whisper Peak, because the moonlit meadow is full of tiny clues tonight.

First, I found three silver hoofprints beside my tent. Then a postcard slipped under a pebble, but it only said, "Follow the softest star."

I am a little shy about asking, but could you keep the investigation open? I think the next clue may appear wherever someone has been kind.

The meadow map has a new dotted line between Whisper Peak and the mailbox tree. I did not draw it. I have placed a polite pebble on each end so it does not wander off before you can inspect it.

Please check the sky, the path, and any suspicious crumbs from midnight snacks.

Love and baa-hugs,
Derek

What should Isabella and Isaac check next?

Derek has not called this proof. He has only pinned the clues that feel interesting enough to ask two trusted investigators about.

✦ Softest star Draw the star shape before it changes, then compare it with the map compass.
⌾ Silver hoofprints Count them carefully. Three is suspicious, but not final.
πŸ’› Kind clue Write down one kind thing that happened nearby. The rule keeps appearing in separate files.
βœ‰ Midnight crumbs Check whether the crumbs form a path or simply a snack.
⌁ New dotted line Follow the route from Whisper Peak to Mailbox Tree without closing any tabs too quickly.
? Reply question Ask Derek what the pebble looked like, whether it hummed, and if it was warm.
